It should be noted that this powerful ruler (Sakthan Thampuran) was also known in other names like Raja Rama Varma or Rama Varma Kunjipilla Thampuran. The palace of Sakthan Thampuran known as the Sakthan Thampuran Palace is situated in Thrissur district of Kerala state, India. This is actually a Kerala Dutch style palace which is now preserved by the Archaeological department. Another important fact regarding the Sakthan Thampuran palace is that it was converted into a museum in the year 2005. When we are discussing the exact location of this Sakthan Thampuran Palace in Thrissur, remember that this is located very close to the famous Vadakkunnathan Temple in the Thrissur district. Several galleries are displayed in this museum including the numismatics gallery, sculpture gallery, bronze gallery, history gallery, megalithic gallery, epigraphy gallery etc. Apart from this, household utensils made of copper & bronze are displayed in one part of the museum. Also you can see an old sarpakavu, heritage garden & an Archaeological garden located at different places of this sakthan thampuran palace. According to the Hindu belief, sarpakavu is a place for worshipping the serpents. The Archaeological garden displays collections from the Stone Age while the heritage garden preserves rare trees as well as plants of our state. In the numismatic gallery present in the museum, you may be able to see ancient coins including the Indo-Dutch coins, British-India coins, Malabar coins etc. Another important point regarding the Sakthan Thampuran palace is that you can see the tomb (final resting place) of Sakthan Thampuran inside this palace.
