We all are familiar with the name Nehru Trophy Boat Race. In 2011 the Nehru Trophy Boat Race, popularly known as the Nehru Trophy Vallam Kali, is going to be held on 13 August. Another fact is that on 13 August 2011, the 59th Nehru Trophy Boat Race will be conducted. That means this famous boat race was started in the year 1952. When compared to other boat races of Kerala, the Nehru Trophy Boat Race is considered as the most popular one. Every year this popular boat race is conducted on second Saturday of August. Tourists from different parts of the world are attracted to the place for watching this popular boat race. It should be noted that this boat race is conducted in the Punnamada lake of Alappuzha district of Kerala state, India. People from different parts of Kerala find their time to watch this popular boat race. For participating in the boat race, each snake boat must have 5 controllers (amarakkar), 95 oarsmen & 10 cheerleaders (nilakkar). Apart from this, vanchipattu must be sung by about 10 singers on the boat so that this will increase the spirit of the participants. The Nehru Trophy Boat Race held at Punnamada Lake in Alappuzha district of Kerala state, India, was organized in honour of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru (first Prime Minister of India) on his visit to Kerala state in the year 1952. After enjoying the snake boat race, Nehru announced the trophy for the winners of the race. So remember that Nehru Trophy is the trophy given to the winners of the famous Nehru Trophy Boat Race. The visitors of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race should purchase tickets only from authorized ticket counters of Government departments & tourism information offices. Also you must check the tickets for the authorized seal of the committee & serial number. Another fact is that the authorized counters can be identified with banners having logo of NTBR. In general you must remember not to purchase tickets or complimentary passes from unauthorized person. Tickets without seal or serial number should not be purchased. Donot bring liquors & dangerous items to the pavilion. Also note that smoking is not allowed in the pavilion. Parking facility will be available only upto 11:00 AM in Municipal Stadium North of Zillah Court Bridge.
