All people of Kerala are waiting for Onam, which is the harvest festival of Kerala. Apart from the activities that are going to be held during the Onam celebration, several organisations have started shopping festivals in connection to welcome Onam. For the Onam festival of 2011, the Malayala Manorama newspaper has organized a shopping festival from 11 August 2011 – 21 August 2011. The venue of the shopping festival is the Thycaud police ground in Trivandrum of Kerala state, India. This will be a mega shopping festival which is named as the Ananthapuri Fest. Malayala Manorama in coordination with the RTech group will be organizing this mega shopping festival. The timing will be from 2:00 PM- 9:00 PM except public holidays. But for public holidays the event starts from 11:00 AM onwards. An important feature of this festival will be the presence of about 120 stalls that are fully air conditioned. All Malayalees will definitely take this opportunity to welcome Onam. Since this is conducted in Trivandrum or Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, this festival will attract tourists from different parts of the world to our country, especially Kerala state or the god's own country.
The important features of this Ananthapuri Fest include ganamela, entertainment programmes, dances etc that will be conducted every evening on the festival day. Also note that this festival displays jewellery items, electronics, furniture, building materials, CD's, food items, curtains as well as saree stalls, modern household items, book stalls, foreign items, computer games etc. Different sections will be available for the above mentioned items. So people will have a great time for visiting those stalls & buying items that are needed for them. There will be separate counters for the Indian & Chinese food items.
