Johnson Master is a popular singer, music composer, music director as well as an instrumentalist who is very familiar among the Kerala people. Even though Johnson is his name, he is very popular among people by the name Johnson Master. It should be noted that Johnson Master was born in a Christian family in Thrissur located in Kerala state of India & from a young age itself he showed the talents in music.
He was a singer in the church choir & he also obtained training in harmonium & guitar. This talented musician was introduced to G. Devarajan, who was a famous composer in Indian cinema by Jayachandran.
The beauty of the Carnatic ragas was introduced in his songs, even though he had no formal training in classical music. He had a different style of music that made him different from other musicians. Apart from his film songs, there are also 4 non film albums that were released by Johnson Master. National film awards were given to Johnson Master in 2 consecutive years. That means he was given this prestigious awards for the films Ponthan Mada & Sukrutham respectively. Johnson Master was considered as the only Malayalee music director to receive two National awards in music category.
Apart from this, he was awarded the Kerala state film awards for best music directors in the films Vadakkunokkiyantram, Mazhavil Kavadi, Ormakkayi & Anganne Oru Avadhikkalathu. Remember that Johnson Master was also given the Kerala state film awards for best background music in the films Sallapam & Sadayam respectively.
