Carnatic Music Higher Study in Kerala - Music Colleges and Courses

Music is not only an entertainment but also an aesthetic study subject. To sing a song well, you must study it's basic facts and should get proper training also. Basic study means the study of Carnatic Music and Hindustani Music. In Kerala, the influence of Carnatic Music is much more than Hindustani. Carnatic Music is a fundamental music system in India that established in the Southern states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. In Kerala, there are Three main Music Colleges.
1.Swathi Thirunal college, Thiruvananthapuram.
2.R.L.V. College of Music and Fine arts, Thripunithura.
3.Chittoor Chembai Music college, Palakkad.
Swathi thirunal college is affiliated to Kerala University and have BPA (bachelor of performing arts) MPA (master of performing arts) courses in vocal singing and various instruments like Vina, Violin, Mridangam etc.
RLV college of Music and Fine arts, Thripunithura is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and having the courses like BA, MA. Vina, Violin, Mridangam, Kathakali, Kathakali Chenda, Maddalam, Painting , Applied Arts, Sculpture etc.
Chembai Music college, Palakkad also offers bachelor courses. BA Vocal Music,BA Music(Vina), BA Music(Violin) etc.
Kaladi Sanskrit College offers BA, MA, M Phil and PhD courses and Maharjas college, Ernakulam offers BA courses. Thiruvananthapuram Government Woman's college is the oldest college which having the same facility. Dr. Omanakkutty teacher was the Professor in that College.
Kannur University offers M Phil-PhD programs. Thrissur School of drama is a centre which is giving BAMA-mphil courses. Great Musician Ganagandharvan KJ Yesedas studied in RLV college,thripunithura and later studied in Swathi thirunal college, Thiruvananthapuram.
There are many veteran artists in these colleges like Thamarakkad govindan Namboothiri, Mavelikara P subramanium, PS Vanajam etc. Vocal training of manodharma sangeetha also available. It is interesting but a big task. Great talent and ability of singing is needed.
It is not a job oriented course at first. But you can perform a true music in performing stage. It is not a money making profession. There are always struggle and failure in the way of Music. It is not suitable for 'star singers' and it is not a basic training course for participating any reality show.
