Every Malayalee know the importance of this fruit. Kerala's climate and soil is well good for the jackfruit tree to grow. The rough and hard cover, and inside the sweet fruit. The jackfruit is a species of tree in the Artocarpus genus. The Malayalees called as "Chakka". The flesh of jackfruit is starchy and fibrous. In kerala there are two varities of jackfruit is available:- "Varikka" and "Kuzha". 'Varikka' has comparatively hard inner flush while 'kuzha' is very soft.

There are many varieties of dishes preparing with jackfruit. 'Chakka Varattiyathu' – This is preparing with 'varikka' mixed with ghee, jaggery etc. It is preserved for months without being damaged and its one of the tastiest recipe of Kerala.'Chakka appam' - Some places it's also called Chakka ada. This can be prepare with both the varieties varikka and kuzha mixed with jiggery, rice floor etc. Above two recipes are made of ripe jackfruit.
Jackfriut chips (Chakka vattal)- The young fruit is used to make this. The young jackfruit flesh is cut into pieces, mixed with salt and fries it in the pure coconut oil. Jack fruits are also used to prepare curries that could eat with fish. It's a tasty dish in Kerala.
