After the roaring success of the movie 'Pazhassiraja', another film based on the history of Kerala is to be produced on the subject of Tipu Sultan and Unniarcha. The producer is the same Mr Gokulam Gopalan who is producer of the successful 'Pazhassiraja'. The producer has booked the Mega Star of South Mr Kamal Hassan for the title role in the proposed movie. The film is to be directed by Sri Vayalar Madhavan Kutty and the story is being written by John Paul who is an outstanding writer. About Tipu Sultan
While Tipu Sultan is a hero in Karnataka for his fight against the British, He is a villain in Kerala where he has ravaged and plundered many temples and conquered many small rulers with their kingdoms. In contrast Unniarcha is a beautiful veera vanitha of Kerala who was a real heroine of her time, both in terms of beauty and valour. She is from the famous kalari (martial art) family of Puthooram veedu in North Malabar area. She and Tipu were in same period for some time. Her name will be on the tongues of all Kerala people through the ballads of 'Vadakkan Paatukal' and 'Veera Gathakal' etc.About Unniarcha
There is a story about Unniarcha, by her 4th generation descendent Manantheri Bhaskaran, and the relation with the Sultan though it is not confirmed by records so far. But there is a strong possibility for the relationship because she was bold and beautiful and the Tipu was a Sthree Lambadan with more than 600 women in his harem known as Tipu's Zanana in Srirangapatna of Mysore. According to the story Unniarcha was captured by Tipu and taken her to his palace at Srirangapatna and made her as one of his wives. It is also told that When Tipu was on his conquest journey through Kerala, his army had to fight with her and in the fight Tipu had to intervene. Tipu's army had captured some of the relations of Unniarcha. He cut the head of one of her cousins and send the head to her with a message that if she did not surrender, this fate will follow all her family members. In order to prevent that happening, she is said to have surrendered to Tipu and went with him to his palace. The story also tells that she became one of the prominent wives of Tipu and had two sons and daughter by him. In spite of that she was plotting to revenge against him for her humiliation. In the meantime he was captured and killed by the British. As a part of her plot she seems to have established relationship with the king of Mysore Wodeyar.
