All Keralites are eagerly waiting to celebrate Onam, which is the harvest festival of Kerala state, India. It should be noted that the Onam week celebrations organized by the Tourism Department will begin on 7 September 2011 at the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala state, India.
I hope all Malayalees are familiar with the fact that Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium is a huge stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, where different games as well as activities are organized. The functions will be inaugurated by the Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy. Also note that actor Mammootty, poet O. N. V. Kurup , writer Sukumar Azhikode, Kathakali artiste Kalamandalam Ramankutty Nair, Resul Pookutty(film sound engineer) & percussionist Mattannur Sankarankutty will be honored during the function. Several cultural programs will be conducted in connection to the Onam week celebrations. Remember that the Onam week celebrations will begin on 7 September 2011 & ends by 13 September 2011.
Apart from all this activities, the stadium will be the venue of mega shows got up by Asianet Cable Vision, Surya TV, Jeevan TV, Kairali TV in addition to popular newspapers like Kerala Kaumudi & Malayala Manorama. There will be performances related to classical dance, traditional art forms, ganamela, competitions, amusement shows, trade fair & exhibiton etc. Among the above mentioned events, the amusement shows will take place at Kanakakunnu Palace grounds.
The trade fair & exhibitons will take place at Suryakanthi from 5 September 2011 -15 September 2011. In addition to this there will be also a food festival. During the week long celebrations, the stretch of the road from Raj Bhavan to East Fort in Thiruvananthapuram will be illuminated. On 13 September 2011, which is the grand finale day of the celebrations, about 75 floats will line up for the cultural procession that takes place from Kowdiar to East Fort.
