Parippu Payasam(Green gram dal Payasam)- an Onam Recipe
Parippu Payasam(Green gram dal payasam,cherupayar dal payasam) a traditional festival porridge, has a great position in Onasadhya(Onam Recipes). Most of Keralitis are making Parippu Payasam on Thiruvonam day. It is very simple to make. We can make Parippu Payasam in different method; one of the simple method is giving here.
Parippu Payasam a favorite Onam Recipe
Ingredients :
Parippu (Green gram dal) -200 gm
Sarkara (Jaggery)- 200m
Water – ½ Litter
Coconut – 2 Nos
Cashew nuts- 25 gm
Raisins- 25 gm
Ghee -50 gm
Preparation Method:
1. Take green gram dal in non stick pan and allow to fry it with 2 tablespoon ghee till light brownish color.
2. Take water in a large pot add fried green gram dal with this water and allow to cook for few minutes till dal become soft like a paste.
3. Melt the Jaggery in another pot by heat jaggery with little water.
4. Add this thick Jaggery solution in to before cooked green gram dal and allow to boiling in a low flame.
5. Take the milk from coconut; keep the first taken milk in another pot.
Then take second and third milk from coconut and add it to this boiling green gram dal and Jaggery and allow to boiling few seconds.
6. Fry the Cashew nuts and Raisins with ghee and add it to the Payasam.
Then add the 1st milk, which you have taken before, and keep the pot on a low flam few seconds for thickening and remove it from flame.
