Among every Cricket Lovers in Kerala there will be a craze of knowing about our Kerala Cricket Association. The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) is the main body of cricketing activities in our state Kerala.
The Kerala Cricket Association was formed in the year 1950 and got its affiliation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the year 1952. The Kerala Cricket Association is located at the capital city of Kerala Thiruvananthapuram. Now the President post of KCA is handled by Adv. T. R. Balakrishnan and the Secretary post by T. C. Mathew.
Kerala Cricket Association conducts many League Tournaments for the development and promotion of the game Cricket in Kerala. They conduct Tournaments for the age groups like Under – 13, Under – 15, Under – 17, Under – 19, Under – 22, Under – 25. Other than the League Tournaments KCA conducts and organizes National Tournaments too.History of Cricket in Kerala
The game of Cricket was first introduced in Kerala by the British named Colonel Arthur Wellesley at Thalassery. During that period the game got the attention of Kochi Royal Family and thus became the royal game of Kochi Princedom. During this time they introduced the famous Pooja Knockout Tournament which recently celebrated its 60 years of entry in the game in the year 2010. The Pooja Knockout Tournament is also famous as the oldest limited over tournament in the world. It is one of the major tournaments of Kerala Cricket.
The game of Cricket has become more popular in the state because of its playing among youth and children with softballs and tennis balls. The Kerala Cricket Association selected the first Kerala Ranji Trophy Team which was led by P. M. Raghavan.International Players from KCA
Kerala Cricket Association contributed many talented cricket players from Kerala. The International players that the KCA introduced to the Indian national team were Tinu Yohannan and Sreesanth. Tinu Yohannan was the first Kerala player who represents India in the test cricket. Sreesanth, the ongoing representative of the Kerala Cricket is well famous with his seam bowling and also with his aggression and dancing in Cricket fields. Sreesanth was the first Keralite to play a World Cup game and also played for India in the recently held World cup final 2011 which India won. He was one of the major contributors of first twenty – twenty World cup which India won in the year 2007.
Many umpires, coaches, scorers, selectors, video- analysts were contributed by KCA towards the national and International levels.
KCA is starting the construction of a new International Stadium at EdaKochi in Kochi. The stadium is expected to be completed by the year 2013.Kochi Tuskers Kerala- The IPL Team of Kerala
Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK) is the asset for Kerala Cricket in the Indian Premier League (IPL). KTK was one of the major teams of IPL game 2011. The KTK team was led by the Srilankan former Captain Mahela Jayawardana. KTK brought new energy to the Cricket lovers of Kerala. But unfortunately the future of KTK is under controversy that the team was terminated by BCCI from Indian Premier League for defaulting on payments.
