VS Achuthanandan, the Opposition leader of the state and the leader of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) criticized the stand of CPI(M) Politburo on the Mullaperiyar issue on friday. He said the resolution passed by the Politburo on last day on Mullaperiyar Dam issue did not reflect the real feelings of all the people of the state. He opined that the statement from the politburo was unfortunate. He also added that he wishes that the National leadership of the party will take a stand which will contain the true emotions of the people of Kerala on the Mullaperiyar Dam. He was talking to the reporters.
While all the political parties in the state are of one sound in demanding a new dam on Periyar, the Politburo statement issued from Delhi on Thursday did not mention a word on that demand. They just suggested that both Kerala and Tamil Nadu should try to resolve the long-existing issue sooner ensuring the safety of the current dam, which attracted criticism from the Kerala leaders of the party.
He lashed out at the Advocate General of the state as well for having presented the mileading views on the Mullaperiyar issue in the High Court. Achuthanandan asked Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to change the Advocate General as he, said there was no relation between water level in the Mullaperiyar Dam and the safety of the dam, while appearing for the Government. It is vertically opposite to the stand of the Government regarding the issue.
The former Chief Minister said that the statement of A.G is ridiculous and that is totally against the stand of the state. Oommen Chandy should expel him, he added. There will be no use of the proposed all-party meeting and the declared special session of the Kerala assembly, if the stand of Government is this, as said by Achuthanandan.
At the same time, Advocate General KP Dandapani said that his statement in the court had been bent over by the media. He told the reporters that the Court was satisfied with his presentation.
Meanwhile, the strike and protests in Kerala demanding the rebuilding of Mullaperiyar dam are making higher notes. E S Bijimol MLA, who had been on an indefinite hunger strike in Chappathu was arrested and hospitalised in the morning. Other few hunger strikers are also arrested. Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is going to meet the Prime Minister and aware the facts soon.
Keralites have been on nerves about the Mullaperiyar dam for a few days particularly after the tremors in the vicinities of the dam. The Idukki district has witnessed almost 20 tremors in the last few months.
In my opinion all the political leader take mullaperiyar as a serious issue and they also try their level best for helping people. But their effort will not make a good result. V S Achuthanadan also expressed his idea and looking for it and starting his past he it is in a good way then it will give good result in Mullaperiyar problem.
