Neha Ramesh from Bangalore has been crowned as the Navy Queen at a pageant conducted in relation with the Navy Week celebrations at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi on 5th December. Neha is the daughter of a farmer couple. Sneha Kumar Gautam and Henna have been selected as the first and second runners-up respectively. The pageant was conducted at the Command Officers Mess as a part of the 'Navy Week' celebrations. The finale had 10 contestants from various cities. The jury consisted of Letha Sushil, Command Medical Officer Surgeon Rear Admiral Nirmala Kannan, Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST) Rear Admiral G. Ashok Kumar, Le Meridien General Manager Rajesh Madan, Choice School Principal Molly Cyril and Lieutenant Kaustab Banerjee of INS Garuda selected the winners.
The Navy Queen Neha Sharma will get the return tickets for a couple to London, a cash prize, jewellery from TBZ with other prizes. The first runner-up will get return tickets for a couple to Paris, cash prize and jewellery from TBZ and the second runner-up will get a single return ticket to Dubai with a cash prize and jewellery from TBZ.
The subtitles of the competition were won by Saranya (Miss Beautiful Smile), Vani (Miss Beautiful Skin) Neha Shukla (Miss Beautiful Hair) and Dimple (Miss Beautiful Personality).
The event was kickstarted with the rolling out of the traditional 'Navy Ball' by Vice-Admiral K. N. Sushil, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command. The four hour long show was compered by Nasir Kazi and the former Navy Queen Dilruba Pandey. The electrifying dance numbers by Carl Fernais, the awesome performances by the Illusion and the 'Immortals' from Mumbai and DJ Rajan made the show more extravagant.
The event was sponsored by Deccan Chronicle, TBZ, Oman Air, ITC and others. The organisers said that the earnings obtained from the event will be spent for welfare activities like providing education to children of naval ex-servicemen and personnel who died in harness.
