Kapil Sibal dedicates AMU special centre at Malappuram to the nation

The much awaited launch of special centre of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was officially carried out by Central Minister of Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal at Malappuram on Saturday. The minister dedicated the centre to the nation in the function held at Sir Sayyid Nagar in the Chelamala campus. Sibal said that mind is the real asset but not the building or wealth. The minister added that it is his dream to provide the Akash Tablet to every Muslim youth at very cheaper rates.
Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy presided over the function. He complimented the diligence that the previous LDF government took for the establishment of the centre. He also said that he and his government also played their part to make the things go faster. Kapil Sibal laid the foundation stone for the new campus. Central minister E Ahammed laid the foundation stone of the administration block. The website of the special centre was inaugurated by State Minister for Industries PK Kunjalikkutty. The power plant related to the campus was launched by State Electricity Minister Aryadan Muhammed. AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. PK Abdul Azis said that AMU centre will mainly focus on minority, female, technical and vocational education. PK Abdu Rabb, Kerala Minister for Education and AMU Registrar Prof. VK Abdul Jaleel were also present in the function.
The Aligarh Muslim University, founded by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan to spread modern education among Muslims, is one of the prestigious education institutions in India. The University off-campus special centre of is set up in Malappuram as a part of the project to establish five special centres of AMU across India. The classes for first batch of MBA and LLB have already started at a temporary centre set up near the new campus.
Although the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), the strongest political party in Malappuram district, wanted the new centre to be instituted at Panakkad, where is the headquarters of the party, the previous LDF government decided to set up the centre at the 336 acres acquired at Chelamala in the same district. Five men's hostels and three women's hostels would be set up soon. The central government will spend Rs. 200 crores and the Kerala government will spend Rs. 100 crores for the development of AMU centre. The campus is expected to be completed in five years. It will have the facilities such as pre-school and medical college.
