Ivan Megharoopan is the directorial debut from the script writer P. Balachandran. P. Balachandran already hasd penned for some notable script like Ulladakkam, Pavithram, and Punaradivasam. He discussed the base of the story Ivan Megharoopan with director V.K. Prakash in the time of shooting of Punaradivasam. V.K. Prakash encouraged Balachandran to develop the story and later he asked him to direct the movie. P. Balachandran has learned lessons of direction from the school of Drama in Thrissur. Ivan Megharoopan is based on the life of the Story of the film poet P. Kunjiraman Nair. One of the foundations for the story is the autobiography of the poet "Kaviyude Kalpadukal". The story is not merely a copy of that book but a fictionalized story of the poet. Prakash Barae has given life to Madhavan Nair in Ivan Megharoopan. The story took place in Kerala several decades ago. The dresses used in this film are of old model like Mundu and Neriyath for ladies also. The film describes the unusual life of the poet P. Madhavan nair which wass hidden for the world. The story describes the real life of the poet who loves the poem. The story begin from his young age who was left in the house for education. He had the habit of doing things according to his wish. He is very much fond of ladies. He met lot of ladies for romance and sexual affection forgets about them like the written lines in the sea shore are erased. He loves ladies along with the poem which encouraged him to write.
