Sleep is an essential factor for the goodness of body and mind. A complete relaxation is needed for the people who work hard in the day time, and that relaxation is generally called as sleep. In the time of sleep the relations of the nerve points in the brain get equipoise. Our heart and lungs also slow down the functions and get relaxed during the time of sleep. About 10-30 % of decrease is experienced in the blood pressure and the breath rate take place while we are in sleeping. When the sunlight fully dim to the way in which our body becomes completely dark, and at the same time our conscious mind also covered with the dark. So sleep well daily at the same time, and that makes a fixed time for sleeping. Don't sleep gently after eating the food. More sleep is needed for small children's and older peoples. The rate of sleep is based on the factors like age, nature of the body and energy capacity of our body. This is why it is different in different peoples. A new born baby sleeps about 20 hours on the first 28 days. From 28 to 90 day, a baby needs a sleep of 16 to 18 hours. The sleep rate decreases up to 13 – 14 hours for a one year old baby. The rate of sleep is then changes to become 10 – 14 hours for a 4 year old child. By the way the duration of sleep decreases to 6 - 8 hours at the age of mature. It is necessary to sleep for about 6 to 8 hours a day. But in the case of pregnant woman the sleeping duration is extended up to 10 hours.How we sleep?
Everyone has their own sleeping style and it changes from different personalities. Thus the way which a person sleeps gives the idea of their personality. Couch straight is the better position for sleeping. So maintain a good position for better sleeping. Keep sleeping surface clean and tidy and also use soft mattress. The room which is selected for sleeping is darker and air circulated one. The room has coolness for better sleeping experience, but too much hot or cold is not necessary.When we wake up?
Generally in Kerala, the Acharyas prescribed that, wake up early at the morning (Brahma muhurtha). It is about 4am at the early morning. The body gets energy and efficiency at that time. The reason for that was a hormone named cortisol which is responsible for the energetic body is increase at the same time. When we wake up from the sleep, and then don't start to couch for few more times. It is important to get up after 4 to 5 minutes after wake up from the sleep. Sleeping at the day time is not at all a good habit and that is prescribed in ayurveda. But it is better to sleep for a few times at day time during summer except winter. There is a chance of increase in the rate of mucus in the body of peoples which sleep at day time. These cause an increase in the body weight and those changes in to obesity. The reason for the increase in the amount of mucus while we sleeping at day time is due to the dim of our body activities like digestion, breathing and blood circulation. But a small sleep during noon time makes our body energetic. The main reason for sleeplessness is due to the increase of mucus and choler. Thus the sleeplessness is taken as a symptom of disease. The sleeplessness is appeared with respect to the body and mind related diseases. Especially in older peoples there is sleeplessness without any diseases. The peoples who suffer mind related diseases like, depressive diseases, tension also suffers the sleeplessness. The symptoms of sleeplessness are also seen in the peoples who drink alcohol and cigarette smoking. Aggravated blood pressure, some types of kidney diseases and heart patients suffers difficulty of sleeplessness. The person which suffers the problems of sleeplessness due to several diseases needs to take an immediate treatment. So we need to maintain a better sleep for a better life.
