Dr. K.J Yesudas, most popularly known as Dasettan or Gaanagandharvan was born on 10th January in 1940 at Kochi in Kerala. His actual name is Kattassery Joseph Yesudas. He has been one of the most popular in the field of music over many years who is known to be famous as a playback singer, a musician and an Indian classical music singer. He has sung more than 50,000 in various languages which include Malayalam, Hindi, Kannada, Russian, Arabic, English etc.
Dr. K.J Yesudas has got many national and state film awards for his excellence in singing by receiving national award seven times.and the state award for about 43 times up to now. This includes awards from almost all states of India. The government of India has honored him by giving Padmashree and Padmabhushan in the year 1975 and 2002 respectively. 
His father Augustine Joseph was a famous classical singer while his mother Alice Kutty was a house wife. Yesudas got training in music from Sree Swathi Thirunal music college and R.L.V music academy. His father was the first guru in music who was the disciple of Chembai Vaidyanaatha Bhaagavathar.
Yesudas completed the Gaanabhooshanam course from R.L.V music academy. Kaalpaadukal was his first movie. He too debuted in Tamil industry in the year 1960. He held the post of the head of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy, thrissur in 1970. He made entry in bollywood film industry as a singer in the year 1970. He sung for the film 'Jai Jawan Jai Kisan' in 1971. The song for the hindi movie 'Chitchor' has influenced his life a lot. He is really a talented singer and has got many chances to entertain the crowds around the globe. Yesudas is supported by his wife Mrs. Prabha and three sons - Vijay, Vinod and Vishal. Vijay is now a well known singer in South India. Yesudas is really inspired by the motto of Sree Narayana Guru. He really follows the path of Sree Narayana Guru in his personal life.
