Kodikunnil Suresh would be the 7th congress MP representing Kerala to be a part of the 2nd UPA government led by Manmohan Singh. Following a cabinet reshuffle, Kodikunnil Suresh is being elevated to be a part of the union ministry with independent charge. Holding the qualifications of becoming an MP for five times, Suresh would get the merit of being from the dalit community which hasn't made a representation from Kerala. Being elected to Lok Sabha in 1989, Suresh represented the Adoor Constituency in the general elections held in 1991, 1996 and 1999.

Elected for the 5th time, Suresh is currently the congress MP from Mavelikkara consistency. He also serves the Secretary of Congress Parliamentary Party in Lok Sabha. Even though the exact portfolio to be given to Kodikkunnil Suresh is not known, but sources claim that he would be given either the charge of tourism or railways. Suresh will be sworn in as the minister at a function to be held at Rashtrapathi Bhavan on 27th October 2012. Kodikkunnil Suresh can hold his position till 2014, the year of next general election in India.

Kodikunnil Suresh – Early Life





Shri. Suresh was born on 4th June 1962 to Kunjan and Thankamma at Kodikunnil in Thiruvananthapuram. He completed his graduation in Law from Government Law College Thiruvanathapuram. Due to his interest in politics, Suresh joined the Indian National Congress. During 1981-83 Suresh was lifted up to become the member of Kerala Students Union Thiruvanthpuram Unit. He served the Kerala Students Union from 1983-97 and become its General Secretary from 1987-90. His active presence and participation for the development of the party gave him the first ticket to contest as a candidate from the Addor parliament constituency in 1989.

Keeping his reputation high, Kodikkunil Suresh represented the constituency following the general election held in 1989, 1991, 1996 and 1999. During 1989-1991, Suresh held the position of being the member of consultative committee under the ministry of labour and welfare. Considering the years 1991-96, Suresh was selected for various committees including member of consultative committee under the ministry of communications, standing committee on communications, estimates committee, committee on the welfare of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes and also a member of the committee on papers laid on the table. Being elected to the 11th Lok Sabha Kodikkunnil Suresh was again entitled to various positions including being the Executive Member of C.P.P, I.Y.C General Secretary, Member, P.C.C. and A.I.C.C member from Kerala.

During 1999-2000, Suresh was eligible to become the member of committee on estimates, committee on transport and also the member of committee on food.

Suresh got married to Bindhu on 30th June 1994 and has a son and a daughter.

Suresh was defeated in the 1998, 2004 general elections. But in 2009, Kodikkunil Suresh contested from the Mavelikkara Lok Sabha consistency as won the election by a margin of more than 45,000 votes.

Kodikkunnil Suresh keeps close interest towards the welfare of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes' community. Other than his positions held under the party Suresh served as the President of ISRO Dalit Employees Association and Chairman, Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Legal Studies, Trivandrum.
