General information about Beypore


Beypore is an important fishing harbour and ports in Kozhikode. This place holds a prominent place in the history of Kozhikode and Kerala. This was the main shipping centre and trading centre in ancient Kerala. The main attraction in Beypore include Ship building industry, Beach,Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary, bridge built of stone and the backwaters.
Best time to visit Beypore is after the monsoon,during the months of August to September.


Location and access


Beypore is located just 10 km from Kozhikode on the banks of Chaliyar river. This place is will connected to all parts of the world. Karipur International Airport is 23km from Beypore and the Kzhikode railway station is also not too far. It is only 10 km away from Beypore. There are frequent bus services available in Kozhikode. The state owned and private buses make the transportation to Beypore simple. Some water services are also available from Beypore to nearby places like Lakshadweep.


Beypore Shipping Yard


The Beypore Beach is a commercial center for ship building. Beypore is famous for 'Uru', a distinctive traditional Arabian trading vessel. This ship building was satated more than 1000 years ago. Small,miniature ship models are available to buy in Beypore. You can also have a trip in boats with the fishermen through the vast Arabian sea. This is the best chance to explore the lives of these fishermen and their adventurous lives.


A trip through the backwaters and the Sanctuary


Backwater cruise is a newly started event in Kozhikode. It will take you to the historically important Kappad beach.
Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary is just 7km from Beypore. The best time to visit this sanctuary is during February to March. These are the months in which the sanctuary enjoys a wide variety of migratory birds.


Beach and the bridge built of stones


The calm and tranquil beach is another attractive feature of the Beypore beach. The sunset is unbelievingly beautiful.
The bridge built our of stone is another attraction. This is a 2km long pathway into the Arabian sea and is made by piling of huge stones and rocks deep inside the sea.
