Kappad Beach : The Historical Beach Kappad beach is one of the beautiful beaches in Kerala. It is located in the Calicut district of Kerala. The beach is the gateway to Malabar Coast as well as Malabar tourism. Kappad beach was locally known as ‘Kappakkadavu' for the people of Kozhikode and is an important fishing harbor. The stunning rocks in the Kappad Beach are the main attraction here. Sights and sceneries in Kappad will be a special moment for the tourists.
Historical Significance of Kappad Kappad beach has its historical importance. Kappad beach is known by the Portuguese navigator Vasco De Gama. Kappad was an unknown place for the Europeans until 1498. But in May 20, 1498 Vasco De Gama along with his 170 men landed on Kappad. This landmark has lead to the discovery of new sea route to India which linked India and Europe. Samuthiri was the king of Malabar that time. They came here to promote Christianity. Proceeding Vasco De Gama, many Europeans came to India for trade and commerce. They were attracted by the rich resources of Kerala. And slowly they began to plant their roots in Kerala. They began to cheat the local kings of Kerala and began to establish their reign here. This marked the phase of Colonization in Kerala and ultimately Kerala became the colony of European Countries. So Kappad has a great significance in the history of Kerala.
Choose your way to Kappad Beach The place Kappad is located 8 kms away from Koyilandi, which is a place in Calicut district. The nearest Airport port is Karipur International Airport and it is 44 kms away from Kappad. The nearest Railway Station is Koyilandi Railway Station which is about 8 kms away. The tourists who are coming by land can directly go to Kappad via Koyilandi. KSRTC bus services are always available from Calicut and Koyilandi. The tourists can also reach here through the beautiful backwaters of korappuzha river in Kozhikode.

From these stunning rocks itseif in the history there came a question to the Portuguese from a Kozhikodan Muslim that ‘ What is the business of Portuguese here' and the reply was again historical from the country man of Vasco De Gama that “We seek Christians and Spices".
