Tourist Attractions in Ponmudi There are many sight seeing destinations in Ponmudi. The main attractions here are the rare varieties of Orchids which gives an exotic decoration to the landscape. There is also a deer park which is about 3 kms from the Ponmudi Resorts.
We can also see some plantations like cardamom, rubber, pepper tea etc. The brisky white milk of rubber which streams out from the rubber trees is collected in coconut shells. In every houses we can witness atleast 10 rubber mats hanging. And we can also see some lady characters that are drying the pepper by spreading it on the ground. These are some interesting scenes for the tourists.
Trekking in Ponmudi Ponmudi is also an ideal place for trekking trails. The immense landscape which consists of mountains and forests makes it an ideal place for trekking. The tourists can trek to a place known as Varayattumotta from Ponmudi. The place is about 3 hours trekking from Ponmudi. Monsoon season is not ideal for trekking activities, so the visitors who love trekking are requested to come between November and May.
How to Reach Ponmudi Ponmudi is located 60 kms north-east of Trivandrum. The tourists can go via Nedumangad route from Trivandrum. The journey to Ponmudi is quite adventurous. There are almost 22 hairpin bends starting from Vithura and the roads are narrow also. So we recommend you to come along with experienced and skillful drivers with a better condition vehicle. The thrilling fact about this journey is, we can enjoy the charming beauty of nature on the way and the roads here are exposed to natural backgrounds. The nearest railway station is Trivandrum Railway Station and the nearest airport is Trivandrum International. Both are nearly 60 kms away from Ponmudi. There are always bus services from Trivandrum bus stand to Ponmudi.
Accommodation in Ponmudi Since there is no much hotels and resorts, the accommodation facilities are quite difficult here. But there are some Guest Houses and Cottages of Tourism department nearby. So the tourists who wish to have accommodation here would have to reserve their beds first. The rent in the Guest House of the tourism department is Rs.400 per day. But for Kerala Government employees, there is discount and they need Rs.50 only. For other state employees, the rent is Rs.200.
