About Kadalundi


Kadalundi is a well known tourist place in Kerala which is situated in Calicut district.
Kadalundi is also famous for its river which rises from the Cherakomban Mountains. The sight seeing in Kadalundi will provide a thrilling experience to the tourists. There are many tourist destinations in Kadalundi. Some of them are discussed below.

Kadalundi Tourism


The interlinking of the rivers, sea and mountain makes Kadalundi a special place to visit for the tourists. The place is also rich in its bio-cultural diversity. The place Kadalundi is bordered by river Chaliyar, Vadakkumbad and the Kadalundi River. The first Community Reserve in India is also situated in Kadalundi. The reserve is situated in the 15 hector area between the Bay of Kadalundi River and the Arabian Sea. The Reserve itself is a prime attraction for the tourists coming to Kadalundi.

Another main attraction in Kadalundi is the Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary. It is situated near to the Kadalundi Community Reserve. Kadalundi Wildlife sanctuary is one of the best sanctuaries in India where we can see many migratory birds. About 135 species of birds has been identified in this place. Among these most of them are migratory birds and birds which are in a fear of extinction. Many tourists from India and outside India are coming here as it is one of the best bird watcher's paradises in India.

The mangrove forests of Kadalundi are another attraction here. We can have a close view the mangrove and its biodiversity from the places like Mannarmad, C P Thuruthy, Panayammad, Balathuruthy etc. All the plants depicted in the ‘horthus malabaricus' is situated in a garden near Chaliyam. The wood dippos of the forest authorities are also situated here. Chaliyam is historically known for its railway lines. One of the light house of Kozhikode is also situated in Chaliyam. Special permissions are needed to enter this light house. One can have a wide view of Kadalundi and Beppur Fort from the top of this light house.

The boating through the rivers of Kadalundi is another attracting feature here. The boating offers a beautiful view of the mangrove forest of Kadalundi. One can also see some small village cruises in the midst of the river for fishing purpose. This will be some rare seen for the tourists who are coming from the other countries who has never seen a river or a sea. So the tourism authorities of Kadalundi are taking a special care in these activities.

There are also many cultural and traditional institutions here which welcome the tourists.
‘Niramkaithakkotta' in Kadalundi is a best example for that. It is situated in aplace known as Vallikkunnu which are in the boundaries of Kadalundi village. The feature is related the temple and was built centuries before. Here we can see many wood carvings which is related to the incidents in Ramayana (one of the epics of Hindus). The monkey species, popularly known as ‘Mochas', can also be seen here.

The St Poles church in Kadalundi situated in ‘Kottukunnu' is also a tourist attraction.
The church is world famous for its statue of Jesus Christ. The statue is the biggest
of Jesus in Asia. Besides the churches, there are also many ancient mosques also, like Chaliyam Masjid, Puzhakkara Masjid etc. The Puzhakkar aMasjid was built by the famous Malikdinar in the ancient times. It was on e the 11 mosques in Kerala built by Malikdinar. The temples like Sreekandeshwara, Pediyatt, Mannur is also famous.

The boat building centers of Kadalundi is also a tourist destination. There are also provisions created to ride vehicles to inside of the sea via Chaliyam-Pulimood bay. This will be a special experience for the tourists. The journey in river ‘jangars' will be a wonderful experience. Tourists can have a jangar journey between Beypore and Chaliyam. These river rides and traditional fishing harbours of kadalundi will surely be an unforgettable experience for the tourists.

Accessing Kadalundi


Kadalundi is situated 20 kms from the Kozhikode City. Kadalundi can be reached via Ferook and by a ‘jangar' journey from Beypore. For those who like to have boating in kadaundi river and need to enjoy the traditional dishes of Kerala, Communist management of Kadalundi will provide the facilities. They also arrange for traveling facilities form Kozhikode.

Nearest Railway Station: Kadalundi Railway Station (2 kms), Kozhikode Railway Station (18 kms)

Tourist Information


Inorder to enjoy the beauty of Kadalundy, the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) is arranging many conducted tours to Kadalundi. The journey starts from Kozhikode City and have a fe of Rs.450 for the adults and Rs.350 for the children. So the interested persons can contact the Secretary of District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC).
