Calicut or Kozhikode is one of the hot spot for tourism in Kerala. The tourism history of Calicut has been started from the ancient ages itself. The place was the head quarters of the Samuthiri Kingdom. From the historic period itself, tourists often visit here as a part of trade. Calicut was the main centre of marketing and trade of Malabar region in those days. Now also, it is a great venue for domestic and international trade in India. The famous Portuguese traveler Vasco De Gama landed here with his crew men here in 1548. It was in a place known as Kappad. The temples and mosques of Calicut is reflecting the art and culture of the great city. All the religions here are living with religious harmony with cooperation and mutual understanding.
