What is N.S.S?
N.S.S. stands for Nair Service Society. It is an organization established under the leadership of Sri. Mannathu Padmanabhan. Nair is a forward caste which falls under the Hindu religion. This society was established for the upliftment and for the welfare of the Nair community. Several educational institutions are been set-up under the management of NSS. These institutions are open to students of all caste.

N.S.S. College, Nilamel was established in the year 1964 and is one of the ancient colleges in Kollam district. This college is a co-education college and is affiliated to the University of Kerala. This college offers various undergraduate and post graduate courses. This college is located in a village called Nilamel, hence provides a better atmosphere for the students to study. The renowned Malayalam actor P. V. Jagadish Kumar was a lecturer in this college.
This college cater the needs of the students in the nearby places in Kollam and Trivandrum districts as it rightly situated in the border of these two districts.
