Introduction
Devaswom Board College, Sasthamcotta was established by the Travancore Devaswom Board in the year 1964. Travancore Devaswom Board is an autonomous body entrusted to administrate 1248 temples in the Travancore region, with its headquarters at Nanthancode, Thiruvananthapuram. There are many schools and colleges under the administration of this board. D.B College is one among them. This college is situated in Sasthamcotta of Kollam district. It is surrounded by the only fresh water lake of Kerala – Sasthamcotta Lake. This college is affiliated to the University of Kerala.
Even though the college is governed and managed by Hindu authority, admissions are opened to students from all other religions as well. The first principal of this college was Prof. N.C Unnithan and the current principal is Dr. K. Mohanakumar. In the recent exam(March – April 2012) conducted by the University of Kerala for B.Sc. Botany students, two students from this college has bagged the first and second position respectively. This achievement wouldn't be possible without the whole hearted support of the efficient and qualified faculty here. During the academic year 1989-1990, the college has celebrated its Silver Jubilee and in next academic year, 2014-2015, it will celebrate its Golden Jubilee. 50 Years of service will not be possible without the support of its faculty and society. Devaswom Board College, Sasthamcotta offers a wide range of Under Graduate(UG) and Post Graduate(PG) courses. All the courses are based on semester system(exam in every 6 months). The various UG courses offered includes B. A Economics, B. A Sanskrit, B. A Malayalam, B. A Politics, B. A History, B. A Hindi, B. Sc Mathematics, B. Sc Physics, B. Sc Chemistry, B. Sc Poly Chemistry. B. Sc Botany, B. Sc Zoology and B. Com. These 13 UG courses are offered for a duration of three years each. The PG courses offered in this college are for a duration of two years and includes M. A Economics, M. A Sanskrit, M. A English, M. Sc Chemistry, M. Sc Mathematics and M. com. Admission Procedure
The admission procedure now is very simple as everything is done online through the "single window system". Students who have passed the Plus Two examination can apply for UG courses and those who have passed degree courses can apply for PG Courses. We have to register ourselves in the University of Kerala website and have to give the list of colleges under Kerala University, where we would like to study. Then the university publishes a eligibility list. Accordingly we will have to submit an application form to the college, then they will call us for personal interview.
