Thusharagiri Waterfalls in Kerala – The Snow Capped Mountain in Kozhikode
The two streams that originate in the Western Ghats, Kozhikode District, Kerala is called as Thusharagiri waterfalls. It is just 55kms away from Kozhikode district. The two streams together form the Chalippuzha River. Chalippuzha river in turn divide into three waterfalls. Among the three the highest waterfall is called as Thenpara Falls. The altitude is 75m. Apart from the above three waterfalls there are also other two waterfalls situated at the top.
The water that flows over the mountain looks like a snowy spray from the distance. The waterfall is named as Thusharagiri due to its snowy look. During the trekking and rock climbing one may come across wild animals. So it is highly advised to go with enough precautions before trekking and climbing. Trekkers should start early from the second waterfall to reach Vythiri and Waynad district by evening. The trekkers can rest and enjoy at the dam located 45km from Kozhikode. One must be really brave to look at the crocodile farm located near the dam. It is maintained by the state forest department. One could watch and enjoy rare species of butterflies, birds and animals. The plantations in the valleys attract the tourists to a great extent. The hills are covered with Rubber, areca nut, pepper, ginger, spices and other medicinal herbs. The fertile red soil in the valleys and hills is the reason for this rich plantation cover. How to Reach?
The tourists could reach Thusharagiri from Kozhikode via Thamarasseri. The nearest towns are kodencheri, Thiruvambady and Thamarasseri that are situated 11kms, 18kms and 17kms respectively. Things that are needed for trekking can be bought from any one of these places. The nearest railway station is at Kozhikode. Karipur International airport is present 23kms away from Kozhikode town.Food and Accommodation
Restaurants are available at the nearest towns. Food facility is not available at the waterfalls. One cannot expect better accommodation near the waterfall. It is better to stay in the lodges that are present in the nearest towns like Thamarasseri and Kodencheri. The lodges would be more crowded between September and December.Nearby Places to Visit
Kozhikode backwaters are one of the serene, calm places to visit. Lokanarkavu Temple and Thali Temple are some historical temples that can be worshiped after the trekking.
