Guruvayoor, the abode of Sri. Guruvayoorappan(Vishnu) is also known as 'the Dwaraka of South India'. Moreover, this coastline area is one among the ten paradise in the world.Although this is a Hindu pilgrimage centre in Kerala, it attracts lots of people from all part of India.The location is 33km North of Thrissur.The Guruvayoor temple is at it's beauty with Kerala style gopurams (gateways), sreekovil, mandapas, subsidiary shrines around a courtyard.

Once we get into Guruvayoor, we should not forget to visit one place.It is the Punnathur kotta. Punnathur kotta is an elephant sanctuary. There are 51 elephants there. These elephants along with the sanctity of Guruayoorappan make Guruvayooor a beautiful pilgrim centre in South India.

Location

Road
Well connected by road. KSRTC bus stand is 500metres to the west of the temple. The National highway is passing through Kunnamkulam which is just 8 kms away from Guruvayur. Bus connections are available to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu via Trichur. The private bus stand is towards the east of the temple. It is half an hour drive by car from Thrissur.

Train
The railway station is at east of the temple. Tourists from the Madras/ Trivandrum area can use this station for their journey and tourists from Mangalore side can use the Kuttippram station. Regular bus services are there from these places to Guruvayur.

Air
Kochi Nedumbabassery airport(80 kms)
Calicut airport(100 kms)

The best time to visit Guruvayoor is in between October and March.
