The Bhoothatahnkettu is the most important white water rafting destination in Kerala. The 14 km Periyar river running through the small, but thick forest, hitting hardly on the rocks, and spraying waters at you will make the journey to it's peak. This white water rifting is entirely different from other rafting in India. It has got it's own beauty and richness with the lush greenery lined along the sides of the river.
Another white water rafting spot is the Kariamkode. The river flowing in this area is this is comparatively a small river, Tejaswini. The river has 20 km rafting distance. This rafting spot is of Class-4 with it's shallows and rocks amidst the water. The state is also having other small rafting sites in other hilly areas of Kerala.Things To Note About White Water Rafting
Best Season : The best season to undertake rafting is the monsoon season. In Kerala, the monsoon seasons is from June to August. The heavy rains will make your trip to the maximum thrilling level.
Who Can Raft : Those who are having some diseases like heart problem, asthma, hypothermia etc are advised to avoid rafting.
Skills needed : There is no prior skill needed for rafting. You will get trained from the rafting destination.
Things To Carry : You will get almost everything for rafting in the destination itself. It's good to have tight fitting clothes like T-shirts, shoes etc with you.
Permissions : Some of the rafting sites need prior permission for rafting. You will get the permission from the Tourism authorities. But there is no such permissions needed for Kerala white water rafting. Drunken people are not permitted for rafting.
