It is located on the Western Ghat mountain ranges of Pathanamthitta district in Kerala.It is one of the famous and ancient Sastha temples in the country.It is situated about 3000 ft above sea level.The temple is open to all, irrespective of caste, creed or religion.The journey to the temple is to be taken through difficult paths in the forest as the vehicles can go only up to Pampa.It is a 5 km strech up the mountian,most of the areas the path is pebbles or concrete road.
Pilgrims goins to Sabarimala are to follow certain rules(Vratham) 41-day prior to the pilgrimage. This begins with wearing of a special Mala a garland made of Rudraksha or Tulasi bead. A pilgrim should not eat meat, fish, alcohol, tobacco.He should refrain from sex, using foul words, hair-cuts and shaving.
Pilgrims going to Sabarimala usually reach kottayam by Train and go via erumely and while some others reach Chengannur and take Bus from there.Kottayyam to Pamba via erumely is about 145 Km and from Chenganur to Pamba is 98 Km.Manjanikara Church

The cave temple there is known as Thrikakudi temple.It has been made according to pallava architecture .The sculptures and painting are well preserved till now.This temple has a big Shivling inside and legends says that this temple was built by the Ghost of Lord Shiva.
