It's the time to honor the young brave hearts of India for their exemplary acts of courage. The National Bravery Awards for children for the year 2010 was announced in Delhi recently. Geetha Siddartha, the president of Indian Council for Child Welfare announced the name of 23 boys and 9 girls who were selected for this bravery act for the year 2010. This award scheme for national bravery was initiated by the Council for Child Welfare in 1957. They are giving special awards for the talented children of India including awards for bravery. So far, 800 children has been awarded for bravery during each year from 1957. These include 568 boys and 232 girls.

Geetha Chopra Award: Jismi P M ( Kerala- 13 years old)
Sanjay Chopra Award: Priyanshu Joshi (Uttarkhand- 11 years old)
Bapu Gaidhani Award: Vishnudas K. (17) of Kerala, Moonis Khan (15) of Madhya Pradesh and Ipi Basar (16) of Arunachal Pradesh
Youngest Award Winner for 2010: Shrawan Kumar, 6 years old from Rajasthan.


The brave heart from God's own country in the name of Jismi has saved the life of two children from drowning. She was on her way to school on December 20, 2009 and saw 2 of her friends drowning in the pond. She said that "Their cries were like my own brother's, calling out to me," and with out any hesitation, she just jumped in to the pond and saved the two life. This exemplary act forced the award jury to select her for the Geetha Chopra Bravery award for the year 2010.

Priyanshu Joshi, another brave young heart of India who have saved his sisters life from a leopard with bare hands and his school bags. It was a day in the month of July 2009 when Priyanshu and his sister was returning home from school in Uttarkhand and suddenly a leopard attacked her sister. Priyanshu just pulled the beast with his bare hands and hit the loepard hard with his school bag. The leopard was injured and they managed to escape.
