Aranmula Ponnamma, the great grandmother of Malayalam Cinema has passed away today at a private hospital in Trivandrum. She was 96 years old.
Aranmula Ponnamma, the great grandmother of Malayalam Cinema has passed away today at a private hospital in Trivandrum. She was 96 years old.
She had a surgery as she fell down and had a back injury a couple of weeks ago. Her body is expected to be moved to her house in Jagathy and there the final rites will take place tomorrow evening at Shanthikavadam at 6pm.
From the 1950s to the 90s, Ponnamma had played roles of mother and grandmother to actors of all generations. This include Suresh Gopi, actor and husband to her grand daughter Radhika. She has won the State and National awards for Best Supporting Actress by the performance in Kathapurushan. The last film she acted was Janathipathyam.
