Mamta Banerjee announced Railway Budget 2011 in the parliament on feb 25th of 2011. The budget given more preference to the “Common People". Highlight of Railway Budget is the non hiking of the train fare, Railway which is running at a deficit of 2500 crore ( it is for the first time in the since lalu takeover Railway During UPA-1) hasn't altered the train fare for both passenger and Goods.

Railway Budget 2011 favours west Bengal the most, majority of the Budget policies are allocated for Bengal, Opposition accused that Railway Budget is just her Election Manifesto; she is just aiming at the Election in WB later this year.
Mamtas Budget was also addressed the security of railways. The year 2010 witnessed number of Train accidents across the country, it was mainly due to the lack of security personal in the Railways, Mamta announced that 100000 Ex- Service men will be recruited in the post of security personal in Railway.

  2. Set gaol to earn Rs 1Lakh Crore in the 2011-12 financial year
  3. Railway to invest Rs.57,630 crore for 2011-12,
  4. Railway to raise Rs Rs.10,000 crore through bond

  7. 2 New thermal power plants to be set up in AP & Agra.
  8. Double-decker air-conditioned trains to be introduced for Jaipur-Delhi and Ahmedabad-Mumbai route
  9. Ticket booking charges for AC/non AC to be reduced by 50 per cent Improve safety measures, installing anti-collision equipments in 3Zones of railway
  10. Introducing 56 new trains, including nine non-stop Duronto trains and three Shatabdis.
  11. Introduced 200 new routes, especially for the North-East.
  12. 47 new trains will be introduced for the Mumbai suburban section and nine for Chennai
  13. To lay 700 km railway tracks by 2012
  14. Corridor linking Gujarat –Mumbai-Allahabad
  15. Five more Durantos by 2012, Allahabad-Mumbai, Pune-Ahmedabad, Sealdah-Puri, Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam, Madurai-Chennai routes,
  16. To set up Suburban linkage between Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad and other cities;
  17. Railway factory in Jammu Kashmir and coach factory in Rae Bareli and Palkkad
  18. Wagon Factory in Orissa
  19. 441 New railway stations to be implemented by 2012
  20. Trolley system is to be introduced in railways like in Airports
