Railway Budget 2011- 12 New Trains for Kerala

Railway Budget – 2011
The Railway Budget for the year 2011 has been announced. This railway budget 20011 is a special budget for Kerala. 12 new trains have been allotted for Kerala. This also include fully Air- conditioned non-stop Duronto Express which will be running between Chennai and our capital city, Trivandrum. The budget was presented by Railway Minister Mamatha Banerjee in Lok Sabha. This time, West Bengal and Kerala got the maximum benefit out of the Railway Budget. This year a new type of train, 'Student Express' is also introduced. Kerala also got one Students Train running between Chennai-Pondicherry –Trivandrum route. Two MEMU trains also has been allotted for Kerala. One will be providing its service in Ernakulam-Allepey-Kollam sectoe and other in Kollam – Nagercoil sector.
But the opponents told this budget is only aiming the elections that are going to take place in West Bengal and Kerala. In the last year budget, the railway ministry almost avoided Kerala in allotting new trains. In reply, this time railway ministry has taken special care about Kerala. Mamatha also told that the government will start the work of Kanjikode coach factory. Also new 2 passenger terminals would be constructed in Kerala. One is at Namam and the other in Kottayam. A night train is allotted to Malappuram which will be running from Nilambur to Trivandrum. This has sorted out the problems of the people in Nilambur and Angadipuram area.
The opponents have not welcomed this budget. Former Railway Minister for State, Mr Rajagopal told that in the current situation Kerala is not in need of long service trains. The railway would had provided local trains taking considerations on the officers and the students. He also told that it great important to doubling the railway line facility than allotting new trains.

Chennai – Thiruvananthapuram Durando nonstop AC Train
Bhavnagar – Kochuveli Express (via Konkan route)
Nilambur – Thiruvananthapuram link express (night service)
Ernakulam – Bangalore Intercity express
Chennai – Pondichery – Ernakulam student express
Mangalapuram – Palakkad intercity express
Howrah – Manglore express ( Via Palakkad)
Ernakulam – Alappuzha – Kollam MEMU service
Kollam – Nagercoil MEMU service
Dribrugar – Thiruvananthapuram – Kanyakumari Express
