Railway Budget 2011; Benefits for Kerala


The Railway Minister Mamtha Banerjee announced the Railwai Budget 2011-12 in Lok Sabha on 25th February. Ministry has allotted 434 crores and 13 new Trains to Kerala. The details are given in the article.

The Railway Budget was announced by Railway Minister Mamtha Banerjee on 25th February. 56 new Express Trains, 9 Duronto Trains, 3 Sathabti Express, Vivek Express, 4 avi Guru Express Trains and 10 Rajya Rani Express trains have been introduced. The ministry has increased neither Passenger ticket rate nor the cargo freight rate. So this year budget is for the common people of the country.


The railway ministry has allotted 434 crore for Kerala. They have also allotted one coach maintenance terminal at Trivandrum and Kottayam. The electrification of Shornur- Magalapuram will take place in this year, Ministry allotted 51 crores for this electrification. The work for Sabari Railway line will start in this year. Its first part, from Angamaly to Kaaladi will come complete in this year. 83 crores have been allotted for this project. A total of 229 crores have been allotted for railway track doubling. This includes Mavelikara – Chengannur –Cheppad – Haripad track and Shornur – Ernakulam and Palakkad – Pothannur route. 13 trains have been allotted for Kerala. Vivek Express Trains
Dhibrughat (Assam) – Thiruvananthapuram (once in a week)
Mangalore – Howrah Express (via Palakkad , once in a week)

Rajya Rani Link Express
Nilambur – Thiruvananthapuram (daily)

Circular Janmabhoomi Ghaurav Express
Chennai – Madurai – Kanyakumari – Thiruvananthipuram – Ernakulam – Chennai

Express Trains
Palakkad – Mangalore Intercity (Daily)
Ernakulam - Bangalore (Once in a week)
Vasco – Vellankanni (via Palakkad, Once in a week)
Bhav Nagar – Kochuveli (konkan route, once in a week)
Porbhandhar – Kochuveli (konkan route, once in a week)
Bilaspur – Ernakulam Superfast Express (once in a week)

Memu Trains
Ernakulam – Kollamm (via Alapuzha)
Kollam – Nagercoil

* Nagercoil - Trivandrum Passenger extended upto Kochuveli
* Shornur - Ernakulam passenger will run daily
