Vishu and Vishu Kani is a sister festivals to Baisakhi, Ugadi, Puthandu, observed in different parts of India. Vishu is a New Year festival celebrated in the state of Kerala. Vishu Kani is a ceremony observed by the people of Kerala during Vishu. Vishu Kani points to the spiritual and mental abundance of a year. It was the eldest women (mostly grand mother) in the house who arranges Vishu Kani during Brahma Muhurtha( between 4:00 am to 6:00 pm) in the Vishu day. She makes the whole members of her family to walk over to the puja room covering their eyes which allow them to take an auspicious site or the glorious darshan of Lord Krishna idol.
