At last Endosulfan is banned worldwide, the Stockholm convention held at Geneva decided to ban the killer pesticide Endosulfan worldwide. After long years of protest from all nations part of the Stockholm convention decided to ban Pesticide Endoslfan against the wishes of India and China. It was banned in 71 counties in the world earlier to this summit at Geneva. Chief Minister of Kerala Sri V.S Achuthananadan welcomed the Stockholm convention decision to ban Endosulfan . India and china stand in favour of Endosulfan , later India changed their stand , asking for time to find alternative for Endosulfan as it was the cheapest pesticide available in the country. The Stockholm summit didn't approve the stand that it was the western countries ploy to sell their costly pesticides in the developing countries.
Kazargod district in Kerala was the most badly affected by the use of Endosulfan in the world, Endosulfan was used in the cashew plantations and it was sprayed aerially in this areas. it has been ten years now various studies has been conducting on this issue, majority of the Studies proved that the 4000 people in Kazargod are badly affected by Endosulfan.
But Central govt was reluctant to Ban Endosulfan across the country, but Kerala state govt banned it in the state. Central govt reluctance to ban Endolsulfan was criticized as it was Central govt nexus with the Endosulfan lobby in the country.
