Endosulfan Ban in Kerala- Endosulfan Victims Relief Measures taken by Kerala Government

Ban on Endosulfan is being taken with serious concern as the kerala government has come forward with endosulfan victims relief measures. The Kerala government have decided to give financial assistance to the victims of endosulfan.

It is important to note that the Government of Kerala have taken several measures to ban the use of endosulfan in Kerala state. On April 25, the honorable chief minister of Kerala, shri V.S.Achuthanandan has led the fast satyagraha for banning endosulfan. We all know that our kerala state is ruled by the left democratic front or popularly known as LDF. On April 29, LDF has called for a hartal all over Kerala state to show their protest for not banning endosulfan. In Kasargod, which is the most affected area by endosulfan, several protest programmes were held. Not only the people of Kerala showed their protest, but almost all Malyalees from outside Kerala also showed their protest for endosulfan.

The government of Kerala has decided to give financial assistance to children who are suffering from the side effects of endosulfan. As a result they said that Rs 1000 will be given to children of seventh standard, Rs 2000 will be given to highschool students & Rs 2500 will be given to higher secondary students respectively. My opinion is that this should not be on papers itself. The funds should be given immediately to the victims. Another point was that the Plantation Corporation of Kerala was directed by the Kerala government to give Rs 5 crore as a compensation for the endosulfan victims. Apart from this, the Endosulfan Victims Relief & Remediation Cell is working in Kasargod to help the victims of ensosulfan.

Proper medical care must be given to children as well as adults who are the victims of endosulfan. It is the duty of the government to take care of all this facts. Otherwise it may cause the death of poor peoples. Last day a Doctor was suspended from service for not treating a two & half old child, who was a victim of endosulfan.
