Thrissur pooram, best known as pooram of all poorams is a popular festival of Kerala attracting thousands of tourists from all over the globe. It comes in the month of April or May delivering an alluring sight scene for tourists. Spectacular presentation of processions with beautifully decorated elephants pleases the viewer's eyes. On Thrissur pooram day, richly decorated elephants with golden headdress known as nettipattom, decorative bells and ornaments captures all eyes. Rhythmic beating of drums, best known as Panchavadhyam presents a real treat for tourists.

Today, Thrissur pooram is a yearly conducted festival captivating all eyes. It was started during the reign of Sakthan Thampuran or Raja Rama Varma in the year 1978. Competition between eastern and western group of temples widens the interst of tourists. Laloor, kanimangalam, ayyanthole and Thiruvambady are some of the main temples coming under the list of western group of temples. Those temples belonging to eastern group of temples include Paremekkavu, karamukku, chembukavu and Choorakkottukavu. Main pooram is conducted in front of Vadakkunnathan temple located at Thekkinkadu Maidan. Amazing display of fireworks at night is an attractive sight scene spotted in Thrissur pooram festival.
