Yes, a great place.
I had the privilege of studying in St Joseph's High School, which is adjacent to this fort, more than forty-five years ago. Imagine walking through this fort everyday on the way to school. Tourism in Kerala especially Thalassery was practically non-existent at that time. The Fort and the stadium were the main attractions of the town. Fort was a quiet place where as children we used to spend a lot of time. The so-called caves were a place we looked in awe which ultimately turned out to be nothing but large underground cellars, ammunition storage perhaps.
In these days of IPL and cricket mania one tends to forget that cricket was first played in India at the Thalassery stadium.
St Joseph's High School is perhaps the only school in the world where the classroom windows open to the sea, where you can watch fishermen fishing in their traditional boats, right under the teachers nose.
