Salim Kumar is a famous actor in Malayalam film industry. Salim Kumar started has a comedian but later enters into character role in Malayalam film industry. Salim Kumar started his cultural life as a mimicry artist. During his college life he became the best Mimicry artist in Mahatma Gandhi university for three times. Later Salim joined Cochin Kalabhavan which has became the platform for many of the artists to grow, including famous film artists like Jayaram and Dileep. Salim Kumar also grow from here and later he joined Cochin Sagar. Asianet TV channel open the door of film to Salim Kumar. He was a performer in Comicola, a comedy show in Asianet.
Salim Kumar life goal was to become an film artist. But Salim was not confident enough to ask for chances because his look was not suited for an actor. So Salim buried his wish in his heart. But Nadir Shah who was Salim's friend approaches Sidhik Shameer by seeing Salim's talent. So Salim Kumar entered to film through the movie Ishtamaanu Nooruvattam in 1996 which is a Sidhik Shameer project. Soon Salim Kumar became famous as a comedy artist. Salim Kumar get good roles in the movies Ee Parakkum Thalika, Soothradharan , Meesa Madhavan, Kunjikoonan, Thilakkam, C.I.D. Moosa etc. which were the popular film of that time. Salim Kumar become famous as a character actor by Samuel in Achanurangatha Veedu directed by Lal Jose. His character in Achanurangatha Veedu brings appreciation to Salim from all parts of film industry. All expected a state award for his performance but he has to satisfy with the second best actor in of Kerala State Film Award 2007. His performance in Kerala Cafe directed by Ranjith was also appreciable.

By receiving National Award 2011, Salim Kumar was really shocked. After receiving the award Salim Kumar said that he never act in Adaminte Makan Abu but actually he was living in the movie. He also said that he is not going to stop his comedy roles because he never think that comedian is not a bad role in movies.
