This great player was born in the year 8 March 1955 to George Joseph & Mary George at Peravoor located in Kannur district of Kerala state, India. He got the early lessons of sports from his father, who was also a university level player. He died in the year 30 November 1987 in Italy following a car accident. After this, the Jimmy George foundation was established. In the year 1989 this foundation instituted the Jimmy George award for the best sportsperson of our God's own country. Apart from this, the foundation also played an important role in giving cash awards at the Devagiri College & the St Joseph's High School Peravoor for encouraging sports among the youth.
In our God's own country, the Jimmy George Indoor Stadium is dedicated in memory of this great player who passed away at a young age following a tragic accident. In Montichiari, Brescia located in Italy, there is an indoor stadium as well as an annual junior tournament dedicated in memory of Jimmy George. Another important point is that the Kerala Volleyball League of North America organizes Jimmy George Super Trophy Volleyball Tournament from 1989 onwards in memory of this great volleyball player.
