Read this article about 'Security In Thiruvananthapuram During The Onam Festival'. Heavy security is taken in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala state during the Onam celebrations starting from 7 September 2011 onwards for ensuring the smooth conduct of Onam festival.
As the Onam week is starting on 7 September 2011 at Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala state, India, heavy security is offered in the areas mainly where celebrations are conducted. This is mainly to ensure the smooth conduct of Onam festival in the city.
So cameras will be placed at each & every corner of the Thiruvananthapuram city, particularly those close to the celebration areas. About 40 moving cameras will be set up at the entrances & narrow lanes that are close to the festival centres.
Inside the Kanakakkunnu palace premises, there will be special control rooms for controlling those cameras. Apart from this 40 moving cameras, about 160 security surveillance cameras (in addition to the already existing 50 surveillance cameras) will also be installed. During the festival days about 6 special action teams will be constituted for deployment in areas like Kanakakkunnu palace, Museum auditorium, Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium, Poojappura ground, Putharikandam ground etc.
Another fact is that there will be a total of 1300 police personnel including 135 women officers for ensuring law & order in the city during the Onam festival celebrations.
