Mullaperiyar Dam Issue - Human Wall by LDF on 8th December 2011
The Left Democratic Front is organising a human wall from Mullaperiyar to Kochi Marine Drive on 8th December. Many people from all fields in the society will take part in the wall. The wall formation is a 4 in the evening. Read more details in article.
The human wall organised by Left Democratic Front in support of the Mullaperiyar cause will take place on 8th December, thursday. The LDF convener Vaikom Viswan asked people from all the classes of society to take part in the chain. The human wall is from Mullaperiyar to Marine Drive in Kochi. It is one among the latest modes of campaigns to strengthen the state's demand for a brand new dam at Mullaperiyar. Many protest forms like Rally, Hunger strike and Harthal have been carried out and getting held on the subject. Congress is also planning some kind of public protest like this.
The CPI (M) State General Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, EP Jayarajan, Binoy Viswan, NK Premachandran, Mathew T Thomas, KE Ismail, Kathakali maestro Mathur Govindan Kutty, Sopanam musician Harigovindan and others would be joining the human wall at Mullaperiyar.
Leader of the opposition V S Achuthanandan and Justice V R Krishna Iyer would take part in the wall at Kochi Marine Drive. Apart from LDF members, many people from all the sectors including social and cultural leaders, religious leaders, film personalities, writers and others would join the wall with public from various places. Marthoma Valiya Metropolitan Philipose Mar Chrysostom and Arch Bishop Stephen Vattapara will join the wall at Perumbavoor.
The human wall will raise the demand for a new dam at the position of existing one to ensure the security for Kerala and water for Tamil Nadu. The human wall formation is scheduled at 4 pm. Those who would like to participate in the wall should reach at 3 pm at the respective venues. Before the wall formation, there would be held a rehearsal at 3.30 pm. The people will be taking pledge upon the issue. After that, public meetings also would be held at different places.
Meanwhile, VS Achuthanandan is observing fast at Chappath on wednesday and KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala will fast on thursday at Thiruvananthapuram. The Water Resources Minister P J Joseph is also expected to join the Opposition Leader in the venue. Roshi Augustin MLA and K Ajith MLA have been on hunger strike at Chappath for a week. KPCC secretary EM Agasthi has also begun an indefinite hunger strike there.
