Malayalam writer and literary critic Professor M. K. Sanu bagged Kendra Sahithya Academy award 2011. He won the award for his book 'Ekantha Veedhiyile Avadhoothan' which is the biography of famous Malayalam writer Vaikkom Muhammed Basheer. The official announcement of the Kendra sahithya academy award winners was on Wednesday evening. Prof. Sanu is among the 23 writers selected for the Kendra Sahithya academy award. The prestigious literary award of India to the literary legends consisting an engraved plaque, Rupees one lakh and a shawl.
Professor Sanu is quite happy by winning the award because he got it for writing about his friend Sri Vaikkom Muhammed Basheer.
Sanu wrote about Basheer's life, who is also his friend so that Sanu can able to fetch a clear picture of that writing legend. The biography Ekantha Veedhiyile Avadhoothan has not only about the literary works of Vaikkom Muhammed Basheer, but about his personal life and experiences. As we know that, more than a writer Basheer has a unique personality.
Earlier Prof. Sanu wrote the biographies of Sree Narayana Guru, Sahodharan Ayyappan, Changampuzha Krishna Pillai, Vyloppilli and novelist P.K. Balakrishnan. And now Sanu is writing the biography of famous poet Ayyappa Panicker who is also a friend of him. M.K. Sanu is expected to complete the book before this year ends. In 1992, he won the Vayalar award for the book 'Changampuzha – Nakshathrangalude Snehabhajanam.
M.K. Sanu is a retired professor, was a M. A. Malayalam first rank holder from Thiruvananthapuram University College. Later he worked as lecturer in Kollam Sree Narayana College and Ernakulam Maharajas College. He is the permanent member of International body for human rights. He is the founding member of 'Mithram', the school for mentally handicapped, which is in Mulanthuruthy village of Ernakulam district.
