The Neyyattinkara by election 2012 held on 2nd June 2012 recorded 80.1 % of votes polled which gives confidence to UDF and LDF and BJP to pose confidence about winning the constituency. R Shelvaraj(UDF), F.Lawrence(LDF) and O.Rajagopal(BJP) are the three prominent candidates contesting the election at Neyyattinkara. This by election came as a need, when Neyyattinkara MLA R.Shelvaraj who represented CPM resigned from the post on 9th March 2012. The results of Neyyattinkara election 2011 is as follows:-

Thambanoor Ravi [INC] : 48009 Votes
Athiyannoor sreekumar [BJP] : 6730 Votes
