The Thiyagarajar Polytechnic College is one of the famous self-financing institutions in Kerala and working under the control of Board of Technical Education. This college was established in the year of 1956 by Alagappachattiyar during the period of Jawaharlal Nehru who is the first prime minister of India. This institution is specially sanctioned by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru only. First time Thiyagarajar Polytechnic College was opened with 30 students.
