Munroe Island is a beautiful landmass in Ashtamudi Lake. You might have passed by the Munroe Island or Thuruthu when you travelled in train towards Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram stations. This island is found at the confluence of two water bodies. They are Ashtamudi Lake and Kallada River. This beautiful piece of land is located in Kollam district of the southern state of Kerala. This island can be accessed by road, railways and backwater. The island covers a total area of 13.4 square kilometres.

Thenmala Eco-tourism Project

Thenmala is an eco-tourism project conceived by the Kerala government to save the precious bio-resources near Punalur town in Kollam district of Kerala. When it was conceived, it became the first planned eco-tourism destination in the whole country. This project is part of a water reservoir built across the Kallada River. A dam was built across this river some years back to generate the reservoir for various purposes in the region. Thenmala eco-tourism project has become the shooting sites for movies.

Santhigiri Ashramam – A spiritual abode in capital city

This ashramam is located in a place called Pothencode in the capital district of Kerala. Called as Santhigiri Ashramam, it was established by the supreme sage Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru. Of late, this ashramam is recognized as the national centre for Social and Scientific Research by the Government of India. It draws a lot of the crowd due to the presence of a unique structure that was built by the followers of Karunakara Guru. This unique structure has been named by the followers of the sage as Parnasa

Valiathura Pier – Old Port in South Kerala

Valiathura is a fishing hamlet located in the suburb of the capital city of Kerala. This place had a huge significance as a port in the region. With the coming of a port in Kochi, it gradually lost its significance as the commercial port. Now, it is used as a fishing port by the locals in the area. Nature becons you with beauty at Peppara

Peppara dam is situated across the Karamana River. This dam is situated roughly 47 kilometres from the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. There is an adjacent wildlife sanctuary. The dam was commissioned in 1983 to provide some relief to people who were suffering due to the scarcity of potable water in the city. The government at that time took cognisance of the report on its ecological importance. Hence, it had declared the catchment area of the dam and the river as the protected biological reserve.

Poovar – Natural Estuary Land Beach

Poovar is a natural estuary land beach found in the southern tip of Kerala. It is called so because a lake, river, sea and beach meet the land. This is a rare geographical formation in the southern part of India. The beach here is unspoilt as it has not been unexplored by the commercial forces of the tourism industry. Agasthyakoodam – Pilgrimage Spot

Agasthya Mala is a mountain range that borders the states of Kerala on the eastern side and Tamil Nadu on the western side. The range passes through Kollam and Thiruvanthapuram districts of Kerala and Kanyakumari and Triunelveli districts of Tamil Nadu in India. Its peak is part of the Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve. The name of this mountain range is derived from that of Sage Agastya who has found mention in Hindu Puranas as one of the revered seven seers. Its peak is called Agasthyakoodam.
