Vadakara is a famous historical place located in the Calicut district of Kerala. It is situated 45 kms away from Calicut. Vadakara is exclusively known for its historical traditions which include Lokanarkavu, Muthappan Mala, Payamkutti Mala etc. Vadakara offers you a historical breath of our great warriors like Thacholi Othenan, Unniyarcha, Thacholi Ambu etc.

Tourism in Vadakara

Tourism in Vadakara mainly include a visit to Lokanarkavu, which is famous historical place. The Lokanarkavu Temple in Vadakara is also very famous and is a regular visiting destination for the devotees. It was believed that the same temple was the family temple of Thacholi family in the ancient times. We can also see some historical remainings of these great warriors. The same temple was once a venue for the famous malayalam film named 'Sargam' directed by Hariharan.

Kalari experts in Lokanarkavu is also teaching 'Kalarippayattu' which is known as the 'King of Martial Arts'. Many people from different parts of the world are coming here to practice Kalarippayattu.

The Sidha Samaj located nearer to the Lokanarkavu temple is also a tourist destination. This building is exclusively for Sidhas which is an excellent spot to practise Yoga and Meditation.

The Sand Banks of Vadakara is another picnic spot where you can enjoy the beauty of the waterbodies including sea and river. Payamkutti mala and Mutahppan Mala are some other famous places in termas of devotional aspects.

Accessing Vadakara

Vadakara is 45 kms away from Calicut. One can also approach via Kannur, which is only 40 kms away. The nearest airport is Karipur International Airport which is 100 kms away. The nearest railway station available is Vadakara Railway station, 1 km away from the main city.
