Kochi IPL team and the Modi factor behind it
At last Kochi IPL team becomes reality, after a series of suspense. What make it possible, even in the midst of big internal crises? Here let us see the Modi factor behind Kochi IPL team.
Now after a series of suspense, Kochi had confirmed with an IPL team. The second richest team in IPL was bought by a consortium led by Rendezvous sports. It was Ex Minister Mr. Shashi Tharoors diplomacy that won in joining the consortium and bidding for Kochi team with Gujarat businessman. Even though it got the bid, Kochi IPL team was failed to register the company and announce the name, due to internal crises.
Mean while, IPL commissioner Lalit Modi and Minister Shashi Tharoor lost their respective positions due to their influential involvement in bidding process. Later Lalit Modi was found to be guilty for many evasions. He regretted all these and pointed to Kochi team and said about share holders of the team, which was a clear violence of the signed papers. It was just a move to divert the medias from his business deals in IPL. But Shashi tharoor lost his ministry due to this.
In the same time internal problems put a question mark in front of the future of Kochi IPL team. BCCI had given many chances but the team failed to register the company. At the same time BCCI banned Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab due to the violation of agreements. Even then BCCI continued its soft corner towards Kochi IPL team and it had given a last time of one month. This was argued by the north Indian lobby. At the last moment, Kochi IPL franchise submitted a new pattern of shares and hence BCCI postponed the decision for a week. At last it got accepted and Kochi IPL became a reality.
But a question remains even now. Why BCCI had a soft corner towards Kochi IPL team, while they banned two teams for violating the agreement? The news papers points it to the Modi factor. It was the Kochi IPL team issue that paved the way for the end of IPL magic by Lalit Modi. So losing this team should point to the validity of his arguments. Hence BCCI wanted Kochi IPL team. This helped to make Kochi IPL team a reality, even in the midst of a lot of internal crises.
