Kerala witnessed the disaster during Makrakra villakku, reports are saying that over 30 pilgrimage died in Pullumedu near Vandi periyar. That including two kids and couple of old people. Majority of the people died are of middle age.
This incident happened on Friday evening in a stampede 30 km away from the Sabarimala shrine while thousands of devotees were returning after watching the celestial Makara Jyothi light.Unconfirmed reports put the death toll at 40 and the injured at more than 40.
According to reports, the tragedy occurred in Pulmedu near here when a jeep ran into a group of pilgrims when they were returning after attending the pilgrimage.
Pullumedu is the remote wild place were large number people gather to watch the Makaravilakku. The crowd was uncontrollable in Pullumsedu , when the pilgrim try to get in to vehicle, the over loaded vehicle rolled over the pilgrims
There are about 30 people in critical state, the police and the people are in to the rescue operation. Many injured are taken away to the hospital. According to locals it will take around 4 hours to reach the near buy hospitals. In accessibility to the place and difficulty to reach the terrain is preventing Police from further operation the communication is found to be difficult since the place is a remote area.
Binoy the man in rescue reported that it is very much difficult for them to take the injured pilgrims to hospitals because of the crowd on the road and lack of facilities available and the communication difficulty is also adding to the trouble.
Higher police official and Ministers are heading to the site, Minister Kodiyri Blakrishnan said that the exact number of death is yet to be confirmed and the police and other forces are in the rescue operation
