Recent reports from Sabarimala say that the Death Toll has risen to 100 and official s has confirmed 86 deaths in Vandiperiyar. Out of the 86 confirmed two were identified, Suresh (22) from Mysore and Korukktii(52) from Malappuram Kerala. Majority of victims are from other states like Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. According to police there is every chance to raise the death toll
Around 14 people with injuries are admitted to the vandiperiyar govt hospital and the critically injured are taken to the Kottayam Medical College. Chief Minister has advised the officials to send medical team to the site. A medical team from Kottayam medical college has left to the site on CM's advice
According to the sources the tragedy occurred when a speeding Jeep ran in to the group that gathered to watch Makaravilakku in pullumedu. Pullumedu is a place about 20km from vandiperiyar and .The rout to Pullumedu is opened in the sabarimala season not to mention it is rout through the forest and narrow.
It is making difficult for the rescue workers to reach the spot since other pilgrim vehicles in the rout are blocking the route. Pullumedu have any Mobile coverage, it is making the official to estimate the situation and accordingly
Higher police official and Ministers are heading to the site, to Minister Kodiyri Blakrishnansaid that the exact number of death is yet to be confirmed and the police and other forces are in the rescue operation
Congress party has announced the halt of Janmochanayatra , Opposition leader Oommen Chandy and KPCC president Ramesh Chennitala have headed to the spot Police Control Room and Helpline at Sabarimala
